The short answer

Ask which method suits the windows and access at your property. The quote should specify the glass, frames and sills included, together with any specialist marks that need separate attention.

Make the scope clear first

The method does not tell you whether doors, frames, sills and interior glass are included. List these before comparing prices. Photograph rooflights, decorative glazing, windows above extensions and anything that may be difficult to reach. If a conservatory is included, distinguish its roof from side glazing.

Ask about access

HSE guidance prioritises avoiding work at height where reasonably practicable, including use of water-fed poles or cleaning from inside. A provider must still assess the actual job. A pole is not a promise that every window can be reached, and a ladder should not be assumed necessary simply because a window is upstairs.

Discuss the first visit

Tell the provider about previous cleaning, built-up dirt and any marks from decorating or building work. A first clean may need a different scope from a regular maintenance visit. Ask the cleaner to explain the expected finish and any exclusions before choosing the quote.

Agree arrangements for the day

Confirm access to the rear, locked gates and any interior work. Mention pets and any shared route around the building. Ask what you need to do before arrival and how the provider will notify you that the work has been completed. Keep the arrangement in WhatsApp.

Choose a useful recurring arrangement

If you want regular visits, ask about the interval, the price per visit and the method for changing or stopping the arrangement. A one-off quote and an ongoing service should be compared on their own terms, with any difference in initial work stated.
